After graduating from high school, Costner began studying business at California State University, as it was believed that an acting career was fraught with great risk. However, a few years later, he realized that business had never been his true calling. After all, a chance meeting on a plane with Oscar-winning actor Richard Burton gave Costner the confidence he needed to fulfill his acting dreams. Kostner approached Burton for advice. He chose words that were very important to Costner, as a result of which he finally felt confident that he could make a living as an actor.
