Louis Vuitton suitcase from the 1960s
Louis Vuitton is a fashion house famous for its traditions and the highest quality of products. Louis Vuitton Atelier immediately gained many fans, including in noble circles. The most influential ambassador of Louis's suitcases was the wife of Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie. Thanks to her dedication to the brand, Louis Vuitton's name was recognized not only by the entire Parisian elite, but also by the aristocracy from other European countries.
Louis Vuitton— the founder of the French fashion house, made a real breakthrough, it was he who first suggested that travelers use a suitcase instead of a heavy trunk — it was a discovery. Unlike a trunk, for which porters had to be hired at each stop, a suitcase could be carried independently; things in it did not mix so much on the way. In addition, the suitcase can be placed under your feet or fixed on the roof of the stagecoach. So the advantages of suitcases over chests became obvious even before the railways were built and the first passenger planes took off into the sky.
Louis Vuitton's first flat suitcases came out under the Trianon Trunk brand, which was the name of the waterproof fabric used to cover the suitcases. Another competitive advantage of the LV suitcase over others was the flat top and bottom: the rounded lids of all previous models made it impossible to put one suitcase on top of another, which caused difficulties during transportation. Traditional leather suitcases had to be oiled constantly to avoid getting wet and the unpleasant smell of pigskin. Witton was the first to use waterproof canvas for upholstery.
