Orlando Bloom is an English film actor. Bloom gained worldwide fame in 2001 after playing the elf Legolas in Peter Jackson's adventure film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Initially, the actor wanted to play Faramir in the film adaptation of Tolkien's novel. But soon he received a reply in which Jackson said that the role of Faramir eventually went to the Australian actor David Wenham, and in return offered Bloom a much more tempting role — an elf. Legolas.
