The magazine of travel, discoveries, inventions, adventures "Around the world". Leningrad, Krasnaya Gazeta, a file of issues for 1928
"Around the World" is the oldest Russian popular science and regional studies magazine, published since 1861. The first editor was Pavel Olkhin, a Russian popularizer of science and technology, a stenographer and translator. "Around the World" appeared in an amazing era when, thanks to outstanding researchers, scientific discoveries were made one after another that changed the world. In such conditions, the appearance of a high-quality popular science periodical looked quite natural.
From January 1918 to January 1927 and from July 1941 to December 1945, the magazine was not published. The presented issue of the magazine dates back to 1928, when publication was resumed after a long break. "Around the World" was revived in two cities at once: in Moscow (publishing house "Earth and Factory") and in Leningrad (publishing house "Krasnaya Gazeta"). For a number of reasons, the Moscow version was produced for only about three years, and starting in 1930, the publication received a "residence permit" in Leningrad for a long time. This period in the history of the magazine coincided with the era of active modernization of the country, when large enterprises were being built everywhere, the Stakhanov movement was gaining momentum, the conquest of the Arctic began, and one after another materials about the courage and heroism of the Soviet people were published in the issues of the magazine. In those years, the editorial policy was directed towards revolutionary romance, travel, discovery and local history.
