The CHEKA was the All—Russian emergency commission for combating counterrevolution and sabotage, a special security body in the RSFSR, until its abolition in 1922 and the transfer of powers to the NKVD. The head of the Cheka was F.E. Dzerzhinsky, under his command the Cheka had the right to apply emergency measures against counterrevolutionaries and saboteurs, as well as speculators and bandits.
"From the History of the Cheka" contains 349 documents characterizing the organization and activities of the WRC and the Cheka. The most striking and valuable documents of 1917-1922 were selected for publication. The collection contains clippings from newspapers Pravda, Izvestia VTsIK and other central and local newspapers, as well as magazines Bolshevik, Military Historical Magazine, etc. The main part of the book consists of documents from the personal fund of F.E. Dzerzhinsky, articles and appeals by V.I. Lenin, as well as internal documentation of the Cheka: resolutions, sentences and much more.
