In 1915, a 25-layer Cantonese ball created by Guangzhou craftsmen was presented at the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition, where it brought international recognition to the art of local bone carving. Ninety-five years later, during the "Guangdong Week" at the 2010 World's Fair in Shanghai, the work "Prosperous World" once again demonstrated to the world the pinnacle of this craft. The central element of the work was a 57-layer ball with a diameter of 17 centimeters, which at that time was the largest and most complex in design among known works of this type.
This multi-layered ball is characterized by exceptional precision and complexity of the internal structure. It was created by representatives of the famous Guangzhou family, which has been preserving and developing the tradition of bone carving for more than a century. The work embodies the highest level of technical skill and artistic ingenuity.
The composition combines a sphere with a rich landscape environment. Twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac are placed in a picturesque environment — among blooming trees, favorable clouds, pavilions and pagodas. In the center, a giant dragon supports a "dragon pearl" — a 57-layer ball. The surface of the sphere is decorated with motifs of Dunhuang's flying apsaras, symbolizing continuous prosperity, peace and harmonious development.
The work has been awarded numerous awards at the national and municipal levels, including the 10th Mountain Flower Award in the field of Chinese folk art, the 9th Lu Xin Prize of Guangdong Province and the 8th Prize in Literature and Art of Guangzhou City.
