This is a work by Palekh masters, made using the technique of traditional lacquer miniature, originally created for the most discerning connoisseurs of Russian art. The body of the box is formed from durable papier-mache, undergoing multi-stage drying and coated with a deep black lacquer, creating the effect of a bottomless glossy surface. The interior is lined with thick red lacquer, contrasting with the dark exterior gloss and emphasizing the feeling of chamber jewelry.

The entire surface is decorated with the finest hand-painted natural pigments and gold, ground to a soft luminous dust. The craftsmen working on such things use the traditional techniques of the Palekh school — miniature brushstrokes, tiny strokes, multi-layered transparent lashes.
