Modin's "Morozko" casket, Palekh

""Morozko" Modin's casket, Palekh, is an elegant work in the tradition of Russian lacquer miniature, dedicated to one of the most recognizable fairy—tale plots. A winter scene unfolds on a glossy black background: a snow-covered forest, the figure of Morozko, a girl in a scarlet outfit, a fox and a swift troika in the distance. A subtle palette of cold greens, blues and snowy shades creates a feeling of magical frosty silence.

The shape of the box is laconic and noble, with softly rounded corners and gold ornaments on the lid and sides. The hand-painted work is done with great attention to detail: faces, folds of clothing, trees, snow and decorative swirls look like a miniature picturesque scene encased in a lacquer gloss.

The inside of the box is covered with a rich red lacquer, creating a spectacular contrast with the black case and gold painting. The product is suitable for storing jewelry, memorabilia or as an independent collector's item of Russian decorative and applied art; materials and techniques: papier-mache, tempera, lacquer, Palekh painting.
