The dish attracts the eye with its multi-layered framing: a wide belt of arabesques with alternating motifs forms a solemn frame, and the central medallion reveals a large floral pattern that reads like a sign of abundance and hospitality. The glasses, assembled on stable bases, are decorated with round decorative inserts in a green tone and ornamental belts that echo the pattern of the bottle — the composition looks solid, calibrated to the last line. The Zlatoust school manifests itself here in the ability to work with metal as with living matter, subordinating luster and texture to the idea. This is how the British called the light, table Bordeaux wine, which was supplied in abundance to the royal court. The history of claret began in 1154, when the English King Henry II Plantagenet married the widow of the King of France, Duchess of Aquitaine and Gascony and Countess of Poitiers Eleanor. Eleanor was one of the most beautiful and most influential women of the High Middle Ages, and the lands that belonged to her in France were several times larger than the lands that belonged to the French king himself. It was part of the possessions of the English Queen and Bordeaux, it was she who introduced the British, her new subjects, to red wine. In the XII century, French winemaking was still underdeveloped, Aquitaine (Bordeaux) wines of that time were fermented only for a day, therefore they had a light, reddish-pink hue, for which they were nicknamed claret. The British have been buying claret in unimaginable quantities for several centuries, and over time they tried it in Germany and Holland. In the XVII century, Bordeaux wines changed dramatically, local winemakers began to receive rich, dark red wine, aged it in oak barrels and bottled. So claret turned into a modern, well-known Bordeaux. The new wine continued to be supplied to England, where it continued to be called, out of habit, claret, and the real claret melted into oblivion. The wine disappeared, but the name remained, all table red wines began to be considered claret in Spain, and in England and some other countries, red wine of the Bordeaux type, produced outside France, turned into claret. The French could not stand such an outrage, and therefore in 1936 they resumed production of the original Bordeaux claret, within the framework of the patented name. Rich, paired handmade glasses are made of crystal and silver (in the same with the "Heroic Power" decanter) in the "grand ducal" style of noble Russian feasts. The author's solution is the shape of the silver base resembles a crown. Historically, ceremonial glasses made of crystal with silver appeared in Russia in the XVII century, and were traditionally decorated with carved ornaments of curly stems with large flowers, images of fruits, berries, bundles of fruits (symbols of abundance). These silver vessels have always been the pride of the owners, they were paraded at feasts to foreign guests and ambassadors, as evidence of the prosperity of the owners.
