Blok's journey was swift and short: no more than twenty years passed between his first and last poems. The turn of the century fell exactly in the middle of the poet's life, "exceptional, common, beloved, sung for everyone." The desire to restore the broken bond of time is the emotional and semantic leitmotif of Blok's work. Critics unanimously declared him the poet of St. Petersburg, where the acts of the drama about being at the turn of the epochs unfold. This collection can be called the quintessence of the urban element, the Blok anthem of the City.
A string of landscape metaphors, flickering visions of the night city and the impressionistic vagueness of contours are perfectly conveyed by Peter Perevezentsev's etchings, executed in symbolic colors for the Block: black, white, blue, red. The original fan-shaped binding (three bindings) resembles a folder with manuscripts of poetry, in which the author could store his creations. The inner cover is decorated with an etching with a portrait of Alexander Blok.
