The collection includes ten works by A. S. Pushkin — the poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila" with a preface by the literary historian M. G. Khalansky, the poem "The Song of Prophetic Oleg" and eight poetic fairy tales, including "The Tale of the Priest and his worker Balda". At the end of the collection there is also this fairy tale, revised in 1840 for censorship reasons by Zhukovsky, with illustrations from the magazine "Fool". The texts of all the fairy tales are decorated with magnificent drawings by eight artists, including such masters of book illustration as I. Ya. Bilibin, B. V. Zvorykin and V. M. Vasnetsov.
