"Epics. Volga" is one of the legendary books by Ivan Bilibin. To this day, the Russian style in art is associated with the images of Bilibin. From 1899 to 1902, Bilibin illustrated six fairy tales: "Sister Alyonushka and brother Ivanushka", "The White Duck", "The Frog Princess", "Marya Morevna", "The Tale of Ivan Tsarevich, the Firebird and the Gray Wolf", "The Feather of Finist Yasna the Falcon", "Vasilisa Beautiful." And in 1904-1910, two fairy tales by Alexander Pushkin, one book of epics — “Volga" and Roslavlev's fairy tales. This is the golden fund of Russian book illustration.

Bilibin painted in watercolor, images were printed using chromolithography technique.
These publications belong to the type of small-sized large-format notebooks. Volga is the largest format. Bilibin's style is distinguished by the patterned pattern, bright decorativeness. The artist did not create individual illustrations, but strove for a modem understanding of the ensemble: he painted the cover, illustrations, ornamental ornaments, font — he stylized everything under an ancient manuscript.
