About this product
Art. : 333-64

One of the greatest and most revered philosophers of antiquity, Lao Tzu is at the same time one of the most mysterious and controversial figures in the history of mankind. He is known all over the world, but almost nothing is known about him, even his real name. His contemporaries called him Lao tzu, which can be translated as a Wise Old Man, an Old Teacher, and even as a Gray-Haired Child (there is a legend that his mother carried him for 80 years and he was born gray-haired and with a beard).

The first and most common version of Lao Tzu's biography belongs to the Chinese historiographer Sima Qian (135-90 BC). According to it, Lao Tzu was born in 604 BC and served most of his life as the keeper of the royal library in the state of Zhou. It was a time of weakening of the central government and the disintegration of the state into separate principalities. Reading ancient manuscripts and observing the life of the Celestial Empire, the future Lao Tzu creates his own theory of the universe based on the Tao (Path), which later became a fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy.

The circulation is 3000 numbered copies. Each book has a unique number and a personal stamp of the master.
