At all times, the strongest evil for Russia has been the weakening of a single state. At the end of the XII century, individual principalities were so rich that they maintained their strong retinue and were in no hurry to carry out the orders of the princes of Kiev. Gone are the days when "they let ten falcons into a flock of swans" and waited for the first one to fly in with a victory to sing a song." Common language, faith, laws, and even a common external enemy, the Polovtsians, did not lead the country to unification. Each falcon prince decided for himself where to fly, with whom to fight.
"The Word about Igor's regiment" is an example of how such an unsuccessful campaign can be described by a great poet, whose goal is to call on the Russian princes to unite. To this day, the beauty of the "Word" fascinates both specialists in ancient Russian literature and amateurs. Taking as a basis the text of the first edition, we offer our own version of reading – translation-retelling, accessible to the modern reader who loves and appreciates the beauty and purity of Russian speech.
