BUSHIDO is an unwritten code of conduct for a samurai. These rules were not so much about actions on the battlefield as about behavior in everyday life. According to BUSHIDO, a samurai should not think in battle. His actions must be predetermined by his behavior in peacetime. Preparing to fulfill one's duty, which most often consisted in fulfilling the will of the master, is the essence of BUSHIDO.
Our miniature book includes selected parts of Hagakure, which in our opinion most vividly reflect the essence of BUSHIDO. Most of the principles that make up BUSHIDO may seem strange and even unacceptable to you. To understand them, you need to try to think in Japanese. Therefore, it was decided to publish this book in an unusual format – the text in it is made in letters stylized as hieroglyphs and is located not horizontally, but vertically, that is, the way real hieroglyphs are written. It should be noted that hieroglyphs, in addition, are also written from right to left. Calligraphically written hieroglyphs reflecting certain concepts of Bushido have become illustrations in our book.
We hope that this book will become an interesting and unusual gift for everyone who is interested in the history and customs of Japan, Oriental culture and philosophy.
