About this product
Art. : 037-40

The work of the St. Petersburg writer M.I.Pylyaev (1842-1899), popular in the second half of the XIX century, is devoted to the history, life and culture of the northern capital of the Russian Empire from its inception to the first half of the XIX century. This original work contains a lot of interesting information and will be useful to anyone interested in history.

This book contains information about the history and life of St. Petersburg in the late XVIII and early XIX centuries. The sources for our work were not only Russian and foreign writings, detailed at the end of the book, but also oral stories of St. Petersburg old-timers.

Most of the drawings attached to this edition and placed in its text appear in print for the first time and are reproduced from rare originals belonging to P.Ya.Dashkov, who kindly gave us the opportunity to use his rich collection of engravings related to the everyday history of St. Petersburg. The rest of the drawings are borrowed from the illustrated stories of Peter the Great and Catherine II published by A.S.Suvorin.
