This book was written by the famous Russian literary critic and historian Peter Ivanovich Bartenev. He was born on October thirteenth, 1829 in the Tambov region, into a noble family. In 1847, he graduated from the Ryazan School with a gold medal. He was considered the founder and publisher of the then famous Russian Archive magazine. Two volumes of the book the eighteenth century are devoted to describing various events of the eighteenth century that happened in Russia. They contain letters from Catherine II, biographies of famous military and statesmen of Russia, various rescripts and decrees.
