The main idea of the world's most famous book on the performing arts by his reformer and one of the creators of a new type of theater is extremely aphoristic: "The only king and master of the stage is a talented artist." In form and essence, this is a talented autobiography of the author against the background of a wide panorama of the leap into the future undertaken by Russia and Russian culture on the threshold of the twentieth century. As usual in Russia, Stanislavsky spent a long time harnessing his main book in sketches and drafts until the age of 60, and then in three months dictated under a contract with an American publisher exactly as much as its binding could accommodate, after which he returned from a protracted tour with his theater to his homeland and published it in the original language.. For the past hundred years, it has continued to be published, translated and republished all over the world. The number of her readers increased many times with the advent of sound cinema, when it turned out that training in the "Stanislavsky system" for future film actors and film directors meant no less than for their theatrical colleagues from the Moscow Art Theater.
