Edgar Degas has been called "the most classic of the Impressionists." As one of Ingres' students, he considered himself a fan of antiquity. But acquaintance with the work of the Impressionists marked the beginning of a new vision of the artist's life: he moved away from academic "patterns", wanting to depict "moments of living life." In the works of the "new" Degas, the main "element", as he said, was the line. He showed life through human movement, and therefore the beautiful young bodies of ballerinas, milliners, laundresses, often naked, became the main characters of his "suites", as he sometimes called his works, for the glory of earthly existence. No matter what the artist wrote, he always strove for perfection.
