The book consists of several sections, each of which is dedicated to a specific period of Lev Bakst's work. The author provides detailed descriptions of the works and the context of their creation. The book also presents interesting facts from the artist's life and his relationship with other cultural figures of his time.
The book contains 194 color and black-and-white reproductions of his works, including drawings, watercolors, paintings, theater sets and costumes. On the cover of the book is a sketch of the costume for the ballet "Afternoon Rest of the Fawn", the set design for which was prepared by Lev Bakst. The inspiration for the production was a joint visit by Leon Bakst and choreographer Vaclav Nijinsky to the Louvre, where the creators were inspired by Greek ceramics and antique motifs.
The illustrations of the publication trace the key styles of Bakst's work: ancient archaic, the art of the Arab East, German Romanticism and the Russian Empire, which are reflected in decorative panels, graphic portraits, theatrical costumes.
