The book is a manual on the use of nautical instruments. The author explains the relevance of his work by the lack of a systematic description of nautical instruments in Russian, which made it very difficult both to study these instruments in maritime educational institutions and their practical use on fleet vessels. The author also points out the absence of descriptions of some devices in old marine journals.
In the first part of the manual, the devices necessary for the navigation course are considered, descriptions of which are not available in textbooks accepted at the VMU. Some details beyond the VMU course are introduced in order to meet the needs of the S.K.K.S. Navigator Class.
