The Young Housewife is a publication that highlights the main issues of household organization of the wealthy middle class of pre—revolutionary Russia. The book was not republished after the revolution.

The book consists of three chapters: in the first, the author provides detailed principles for choosing an apartment depending on the area of the city, proximity to the place of work, home furnishing, as well as criteria for choosing furniture, arranging each room and creating comfortable working conditions for servants. The correct planning of the space of domestic premises is consistently considered: kitchen, anteroom, dining room, living room, study, bedroom, toilet and bathroom, children's room. Interestingly, Nelsina often indicates the specific addresses of shops and shops, the names of the owners and cabinetmakers with whom she was personally acquainted.

The second chapter is devoted to recommendations on child care, on the allocation of the household budget. The author presents in detail the rules of the organization of receptions, the selection of dishes for feasts.

The final chapter highlights the issues of beauty and household hygiene. Nelsina often draws on her own travel experience and compares household organization in Russia and European countries.
