According to the beliefs of Muslims, he is an angel of nature, endowing man with both food and knowledge. In the Jewish mystical tradition, Archangel Michael is identified with the angel with whom Jacob fought. He also defeated the armies of Sennacherib and saved three Jewish boys who were thrown into a red-hot furnace. Archangel Michael was also the angel who appeared to Joshua when he was preparing to lead the Israelites into the battle of Jericho.
