A handwritten autographed letter.
The letter in French was written by Ilya Mechnikov in Paris in July 1906.
He used the letterhead of the Pasteur Institute, in which he was listed as vice-director since 1904. In 1888, the biologist left Russia and moved to Paris, where he was provided with a laboratory at the institute created by Louis Pasteur. Interestingly, Mechnikov was the first person Pasteur invited to work at the newly created institute. There, Mechnikov was busy working on his theory of cellular immunity, which, like many major discoveries, caused serious controversy.
The letter is addressed to Monsieur Mariani.
A free translation of the document: "I am sending you, on my behalf and on behalf of my wife, our greatest gratitude for sending us a statuette that is a real masterpiece. Not only Monsieur Roux, but also other friends who have seen her live, find her beautiful."
