The text of the letter:
"To the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR M.S. Solomentsev.
We are forced to contact you in connection with extraordinary circumstances: the demolition of the monument of culture of republican significance, house No. 11 on Kalinin Avenue, where S.V. Rachmaninov lived twice, is scheduled for the first days of June. When considering this issue in the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, the following circumstances were apparently not known:
a/ the front facade of the house on Kalinin Avenue has no signs of an accident / see the attached photo/;
b/ after living in 18992-93 in the courtyard, Rachmaninov settled in 1902 in the front part of this house, facing the avenue. Kalinin, and lived there until 1905.
Here he visited S.I. Taneev, F.I. Chaliapin, A.V. Goldenweiser and other figures of Russian culture. In the preserved part of the house, the life writer of Moscow, P.D. Boborykin, also lived;
Today, not only decorative paintings have been preserved. the walls and ceilings of the grand staircase, made just before the entrance of the great composer, but also the decoration of the apartment of S.V. Rachmaninov /doors, stoves, parquet, stucco ceilings/.
It seems advisable not to rebuild this house, but to keep it intact, since the main value of cultural monuments lies in their authenticity. The loss of authenticity leads to the loss of the monument's spiritual, cultural and ecological essence.
We kindly ask you to contribute to the preservation of the memorial building as an unconditional value of the cultural heritage of the Soviet people with the installation of a memorial plaque on it.
Sincerely /list of signatories/".
