World Hockey Day was established by the International Ice Hockey Federation in 2007 to promote this vibrant and dynamic sport, as well as inspire new generations to practice it. The date was not chosen by chance: on December 1, 1909, the National Hockey Association was founded in Canada, which later transformed into the famous National Hockey League.
