The health and happiness of children is the main gift for mom, but not the only one. How can I please my dearest one and on what days of the calendar are there separate reasons and reasons for this? Let's just say there are a lot of them, and read the details below.
Birthday and anniversary, New Year and Christmas – on these holidays, mothers receive gifts on an equal basis with everyone else, but there are special days allocated only for them, and they appeared together with human civilization.
The veneration of the mother has its roots in ancient times. The greatest of the mysteries entrusted to a woman – the birth of a new life – has always been awe-inspiring. Most of the ancient fertility cults were associated with motherhood. Thus, the Greeks revered the mother in the goddess Gaia, the Romans revered Cybele, the Celts – Bridget, the progenitors of most European nations worshipped the exaggerated motherhood of Paleolithic Venus.
The Christian doctrine revealed to mankind an ideal maternal image – the Most Holy Theotokos, who humbly accepted from the archangel Gabriel the message of her destiny, to serve the Mystery of God's Incarnation, to know the highest of maternal joys, to endure the cruelest of maternal sufferings and thereby give hope for salvation to all fallen humanity.
Mothers Day
One of the first no longer cult, but more secular holidays in honor of the mother originated in medieval England. The fourth Sunday of Lent was considered maternal (Mothering Sunday). Everyone was obliged to pay attention to the parent on this day. Even the poor who worked for hire away from home were given a day off with the right to go to their father's house and bow gratefully to their mother.
Currently, the dates of honoring mothers in the calendars of different countries of the world vary:
- The USA, Canada, China, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Italy, Malta, Ukraine, Estonia and most European countries celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May;
- Portugal and Spain – December 8th;
- Greece – May 9th;
- Belarus – October 14th;
- Sweden and France – last Sunday in May;
- Uzbekistan – March 8;
- Armenia – April 7;
- Kazakhstan – September 16;
- Georgia – March 3;
The traditions of this day are also different for all peoples:
- Americans pin a carnation on their chest as a sign of love for their mother: a scarlet one – if the mother is alive, and a white one – in memory of the deceased mother.
- Germans send postcards with poetic greetings to mothers and give them flowers and gifts;
- Australians start the day with a festive family breakfast, which children prepare for their mothers.
- But in Finland, the father has the honorable right to spend time in the kitchen preparing meals on Mother's Day.
- Estonia – on Mother's Day, the streets of all settlements are decorated with flags.
What about us?
The pagan mother cult in Russia was associated with the veneration of Beregini. With the adoption of Christianity, the commandments organically merged into the Slavic mentality, prescribing an immutable law to honor the mother on an equal basis with the father. And although there were no separate days for congratulating the mother in the Russian calendar, they prayed for the parents at each Divine Liturgy. The baptized person considered the mother's prayer to be the strongest protection from the hardships of life, and no important matter could do without a mother's blessing while the mother was alive.
The October revolution treacherously tried to shake the age-old foundations, declaring a woman to be just a "comrade", and reverence for the faithful, fervently praying for the lost child of an old mother, a relic. But that was not the case.
March 8th
One of the much-loved "mother's holidays" in our time is a vivid example of how unnatural values become obsolete in a completely natural way. Initially, the "holiday", invented by feminists, had a bright anti-mother and generally anti-woman connotation. What kind of children are there, when it is absolutely necessary to be equal with men in rights and not give in to them in anything!? But the feminine nature laid down by the creator himself, despite the blatantly utopian ideas, took its toll. Ladies are interested in joining the parachute circle after the stronger sex only at the dawn of their youth, and then – well, these parachutes! I want to be weak, beloved, loving and, of course, to know the joy of dirty diapers. And equality? Yeah, now! That's how everyone abandoned and refused the benefits that the weaker sex is generously endowed with, in favor of only stupid pride and some kind of mythical suffrage.
Almost from the very first years, as the Soviet Government organized nurseries for the joint education of national children, and not family children, spring songs about moms sounded in them with all the sonority of children's voices. And as a result, the radically feminist holiday lost its former insane meaning and became not only a "women's day", but also a legitimate "mother's day".
The traditions of congratulating your beloved mother on March 8 are still alive today. As a gift, little daughters and sons work hard making crafts and postcards. And grown-up children, as well as husbands, colleagues, girlfriends, give the culprits of the holiday with little things dear to the female heart from a bouquet of flowers and cosmetics to a star from the sky, fortunately gift certificates for nameless and awaiting naming in someone's honor astronomical objects in our arrogant age are also available.
Mothers Day
Since 1998, Russians have been celebrating this holiday on the last Sunday in November. The holiday date was put forward at the initiative of the State Duma Committee on Women, Family and Youth Affairs and established by decree of President Boris Yeltsin. The reasons that gave rise to it were the demographic decline and the weakening of the institution of the family.
Unlike the previous version of the women's celebration, only women who are expecting and already have children are supposed to be congratulated on Mother's Day. And although the unofficial grassroots still do not consider the holiday their own and do not always remember it, the annual official celebrations, during which they congratulate mothers with many children and especially mothers who have succeeded in raising children, are taking place on an ever larger scale.
Due to this feature, themed holiday gifts generally do not have a middle link. According to the teaching of educational institutions of all levels, children give mothers what modest children's capital is enough for: postcards, chocolates, but solemn concert greetings from high officials, on the contrary, are accompanied by solid expensive presents.
The birth of a child
The holiday is purely private, but so important that it is impossible to leave it without attention and gifts. It is celebrated everywhere, however, adjusted for national flavor. Here are some particularly interesting gifts:
- In Japanese hospitals, it is customary to pack the umbilical cord in a special wooden box at the birth of a child and give it to the mother during discharge.
- In northern countries such as Denmark and Sweden, it is widespread for toddlers to take daytime naps right on the street. Strollers with babies are placed on the balcony, or even just in the courtyard of an apartment building for quite a long time. It is believed that this is the only way to strengthen the immunity of a little man who is destined to live in harsh climatic conditions. For this reason, a traditional gift for the birth of a baby has recently become a children's street alarm system – a special device that informs the mother about the awakening or anxiety of a beloved baby.
- Finland is famous for its special "mother and child box". Since 1949, the State has provided a special support measure for every woman in labor. A pregnant woman must receive an initial set of baby clothes, diapers, toys, hygiene products, packed in a special box, which, if necessary, can be used instead of a crib for a baby. Now the Finnish mother has a choice to receive the box in kind or monetary compensation in the amount of its value.
- Malaysian tradition prescribes giving a mother a confinement in a quiet place and a hot stone massage immediately after giving birth! The so-called Patang lasts 44 days. At this time, the mother is forbidden to carry weights and generally strain herself or do anything other than the necessary child care. She is courted by a whole society of invited relatives of healers and healers, who together try to correct the defects of appearance that have appeared in an interesting position and help restore weakened health.
- Americans give their mother, and along the way, to all the guests gathered on the occasion of the birth of the baby, a gender cake. The tradition has appeared since it became possible to find out the sex of the unborn child on ultrasound. The doctor who conducts the examination seals his conclusion in an envelope, which is handed over to the baker. The task is to bake a cake with a blue or pink cream filling on the appointed day of the celebration.
In modern Russia, numerous relatives and friends often give their mother baby things for the birth of a baby, but especially caring husbands prefer to pamper their mother herself by presenting her with jewelry made of precious metals and other memorable valuable gifts.
According to an old Russian tradition, on the day of the christening, which was most often appointed after the baby was forty days old, the mother was given a dimensional icon. It was the mother who first prayed in front of this shrine for the health of her child.
Mom is a pilot, what's the big deal?
Let mom, as in the most famous children's poem from school, sew underpants for the guys, and not the pilot at all. But on her professional day – in this case, the Day of Light Industry – mom has the right. If she has to work in addition to her family in production, then be kind enough to award her a separate gift on this occasion at least once a year.
