Mammoth tusk composition "Cast a net"
Creative intent: The "Boat for casting nets" is one of the characteristic works of the Guangzhou school of bone carving. The composition is based on the natural curved shape of the tusk, which made it possible to organically embody a scene from the life of fishermen putting a boat on the water and casting a net.
A large fishing net with the finest delicate work, which an old fisherman casts from the bow of the boat, becomes the main visual accent of the work. Family members help him: some hold the boat, others row and take the catch. Their well-coordinated movements create a sense of intense but harmonious work.
Lotus flowers bloom on the water surface, schools of fish play in the depths, attentive herons froze at the water's edge. The whole scene is filled with lively dynamics and naturalness. The master masterfully uses a single mammoth tusk, revealing its plastic capabilities and turning the natural material into an expressive work of art.
