The mammoth tusk composition "Joy every Year" is a solemn and symbolic piece of artistic carving that embodies the traditional Chinese idea of happiness, abundance and renewal of life. The composition is based on a massive curved mammoth tusk that has lain in permafrost for thousands of years. His natural form was used by the master as a dynamic line of movement, resembling a heavenly dragon, rapidly soaring upward and connecting heaven and earth.
A complex multi-figure heavenly celebration scene unfolds over the entire surface of the tusk. Among the clouds and blooming branches, the celestials who arrived from the Heavenly Palace appear. Here you can see Eight Immortals, the legendary Taoist patrons of longevity and spiritual strength. There are three great elders nearby — Fu, Lu and Shaw, who represent happiness, luck and long life. Their appearance symbolizes the blessing of peace and the advent of a prosperous time.
The composition contains many festive images associated with the Chinese New Year. Heavenly children carry banners and lanterns, fireballs rise across the sky, dragons writhe in a dance, and lions perform a traditional festive performance. The musicians play drums and other instruments, creating an atmosphere of solemn jubilation. Thanks to this, the composition acquires stability and completeness, as if a heavenly celebration unfolds right above the elements of nature.
