The bone composition "Auspiciousness in all Seasons" is an outstanding example of artistic Cantonese carving, a complex and sophisticated art in which natural forms are transformed into a symbolic composition of harmony and prosperity. The sculpture is made of bone, valued for its noble cream shade and unique material structure, which allows the master to convey the smallest details of the carving.
The composition is built as an elegant panorama of a blooming garden, unfolding in space like a smooth arc. Branches of ornamental trees rise from both sides, covered with many buds and delicate flowers. Their delicate carvings create a feeling of the living breath of nature, as if the branches had just blossomed under the spring sun.
In the central part of the composition there are large flowers of peonies, chrysanthemums and lotus. In the Chinese artistic tradition, these plants have a special symbolic meaning. The peony represents wealth and high status, the lotus represents spiritual purity and harmony, and the chrysanthemum symbolizes longevity and wisdom. Combining in one work, they create an image of well-being that accompanies a person throughout life.
On the left, you can see the branches of a plum blossom — one of the main symbols of perseverance and rebirth. To the right stands a branch of magnolia, associated with nobility and beauty. This combination of plants forms an allegory of the four seasons, where every detail recalls the continuous cycle of nature.
The subtlety of the carving makes a special impression: the masters managed to convey the structure of the petals, the bends of the branches, the complex shape of the buds and the lightness of the foliage. This makes the composition look almost weightless, like a lace garden made of light.
"Good luck in all seasons" is not just a decorative composition, but a symbolic picture of an ideal world where the harmony of nature, the beauty of flowering and human skill combine in the image of constant well—being and good luck accompanying the owner at all times of the year.
