Mammoth tusk composition "Welfare of Heaven and Earth. The Scroll of the Origins of the Dharma World" is a large-scale work of artistic carving in which ancient natural material is transformed into a complex philosophical panorama. The composition is based on a large mammoth tusk, which retains its natural curve. Its arc forms a majestic line resembling an open scroll or a firmament, on the surface of which a whole world of spiritual and symbolic images unfolds.
Along the inner side of the tusk, the master created a multi-figure composition made in the technique of the finest relief. The light surface of the bone is covered with numerous scenes depicting monks, sages, celestial beings, disciples and pilgrims. They are located among temple ensembles, pavilions, bridges and terraces, creating a complex architectural and landscape structure. The figures are rendered with a high degree of detail — the poses, gestures and elements of clothing are distinguishable, so that the whole scene is perceived as a living spiritual assembly.
In the central part of the composition, a temple ensemble stands out, around which the main figures are located — symbolic bearers of spiritual teaching. The whole scene unfolds from them, as if from a source, gradually filling the surface of the tusk with a multitude of characters. This construction resembles an ancient scroll that tells about the origin and spread of the teachings of the Dharma, the spiritual law of the universe in the Buddhist tradition.
The name of the composition combines two deep symbols. The "Well-being of Heaven and Earth" reflects the harmony of the cosmic order, and the "Scroll of the Origins of the Dharma World" indicates the spiritual origin of the teaching and its dissemination among humans and celestial beings. Thus, the whole composition becomes an artistic embodiment of the unity of the cosmos, nature and spiritual knowledge.
The work combines the rarity of ancient materials, exceptional carving skills and rich philosophical symbols of oriental culture. The composition is perceived as a monumental decorative and applied work of art, where the natural power of mammoth bone, the masterly handwork of the master and the image of spiritual harmony combine in a single artistic space.
