Staunton Retro chess made of Karelian birch is made in the same chess style — Staunton. This is a universal style that is recognized all over the world due to the clear and concise design of the figures.
Its history begins in 1849, when Nathaniel Cook developed a distinctive design, and John Jacques began producing chess in his workshop. The famous chess player of that time, Howard Staunton, after whom the style was named, took part in the release of chess and their advertising.
The design of the Staunton Retro set is based on chess, which was produced by the famous John Jaques factory of London in the XIX century.
