The Napoleon vs Dmitry chess set is a unique collector's set for 2 people, created in Italy as a full—fledged interior ensemble: a chess table, bronze pieces and two ottomans with soft velvet upholstery form a single piece of decorative art. The set has an individual numbering and refers to handmade items of the highest level. Its plot is drawn to the era of the Napoleonic Wars — a time of military campaigns, rapid political ups, diplomatic decisions and dramatic defeats. Each game at such a table is perceived as an intellectual reconstruction of a historical confrontation, where chess strategy is combined with the atmosphere of a large European theater of power.
The figures are made of bronze according to the ancient technique of casting using a wax model, which makes it possible to achieve high detail of each image. The finish combines gilding and silvering, individual elements are covered with 24 carat gold, and each figure is signed by the sculptor, emphasizing the author's status of the headset. The chess table has a 55x55 cm tabletop made of onyx and Tuscan marble; the table height is 58 cm. The playing field is complemented by a bronze frame with gilt trim and angular decorative cannons that enhance the military theme of the composition. Two bronze ottomans with velvet upholstery, measuring 34x34 cm and 45 cm high, complete the ensemble, turning the set into a ready-made chamber area for games, conversations and collection displays.
The historical line of the headset is associated with the image of Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the most prominent generals and political figures in Europe. In 1794, he was promoted to brigadier general, then commanded artillery in the Italian Army, and two years later led the Italian campaign. There, Napoleon proved himself not only as an outstanding military leader, but also as a subtle negotiator. Later, an Egyptian campaign against British influence followed, and after the coup d'état of 1799, his political power increased rapidly. Having received the title of First Consul with virtually dictatorial powers, he was soon crowned Emperor of the French and King of France in 1804, and the following year also assumed the title of King of Italy.
As French power grew, European coalitions against Napoleon multiplied, reflecting the anxiety of the powers before his influence. The turning point was the Russian campaign, which ended in disaster for the French army. The steadfastness of the Russian monarch and the resistance of Russia changed the course of history: Napoleon's allies gradually turned their forces to Paris, and he himself was forced to abdicate the thrones of France and Italy for himself and his heirs, accepting exile on the island of Elba. However, Napoleon's path did not end there: after an attempt to regain glory and power, he was finally exiled to St. Helena, where Napoleon spent the last years of his life. It is this dramatic arc — the rise, the triumph, the clash with Russia and the fall of the empire — that gives the chess set a special historical depth.
"Napoleon vs Dmitry" is not just chess, but an object for a space where history, the power of symbols and high European craft are appreciated. The figures resemble miniature sculptures, the table is a museum pedestal, and the cannon elements and the noble combination of bronze, marble, onyx, gold and velvet create the atmosphere of a private salon of the era of the great strategists. Such a headset will become an expressive accent of an office, a meeting area, a library or a collector's interior, emphasizing the status of the owner, his interest in military history and his taste for rare objects created at the junction of art, games and historical memory.
