Tanakh is the Hebrew name of the Hebrew Bible, an acronym for the names of its three sections. The term "Tanakh" came into use in the Middle Ages. The texts of the Tanakh were originally written mainly in Hebrew, with some excerpts in ancient Aramaic. The book describes the creation of the world and man, the Divine covenant and commandments, as well as the history of the Jewish people from its origin to the beginning of the Second Temple period. Followers of Judaism consider these books to be sacred. The Tanakh, as well as the religious and philosophical concepts of Judaism, influenced the formation of Christianity and Islam.
