A gift edition of the book "The Illustrated Bible. The Pentateuch of Moses." The Bible is the most amazing book in the world. There is hardly another such monument in the history of writing, which would be written and talked about as much as the Bible. It is the most widely read, translated into a large number of languages and causes the largest amount of controversy, research and studies. The first printed book in history was precisely the Bible: it was its Latin version, the so-called Vulgate, that Guttenberg produced on his printing press. The Bible was one of the first major books translated into a foreign language (the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, appeared around 250 BC). In terms of the number of translations, retranslations and retellings, the Bible has no rivals among all the books in the world.
The composition of the authors of the Bible is extremely diverse. They were separated not only by hundreds of years and thousands of kilometers, but also by social barriers. Among them we see kings, shepherds, soldiers, legislators, fishermen, statesmen, courtiers, priests, prophets, a rabbi who lives by making tents, and a doctor of non-Jewish origin; in addition, many authors have left us nothing but fragments of the Bible written by them, so we have no information about them. The text of the Bible itself belongs to a number of literary genres. Among them are historical notes, laws (civil, criminal, ethical, ritual, hygienic), religious poetry, didactic treatises, lyrics, parables and allegories, biographies, personal correspondence, memoirs and diaries — not to mention the purely biblical genres of prophecy and revelation. Written in such a huge period of time, by different people, of different classes and education, this great Book, nevertheless, is a surprisingly connected narrative that has a beginning, development and describes the end.
The Word of God in the Bible, while not being a philosophy in the Greek sense of the term, contains a whole series of fundamental ideas, primarily philosophical. Moreover, some of these ideas have such power that their dissemination, both among believers and non-believers, has irreversibly changed the spiritual face of the world.
