In Moscow at the end of the 1920s, still riotous and petty-bourgeois, but already Soviet, a mysterious foreigner arrives, surrounded by an operatic retinue. He involves Muscovites who get in his way in a series of unimaginable incidents, but his true mission is to find the disgraced author of a novel about the gospel story and a woman in love with him. The people he's looking for are the master and Margarita.
