This is material of ethnographic rather than fiction value..." M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin. The work of Nikolai Alexandrovich Leikin, a prominent Russian humorist, publisher of the magazine "Fragments", a writer whom Chekhov called his literary "godfather", is undeservedly forgotten today. Meanwhile, in the literary environment of the Chekhov era, Leikin rightfully belonged to one of the important places. [The young Chekhov, by his own admission, read his works "zealously" and "choking" with pleasure].
He is the author of many books, including the most famous "Ours Abroad" (1890), a satirical description of a merchant couple's journey through Europe from St. Petersburg, which withstood 24 lifetime reprints; in total, 27 reprints before the revolution of 1917. In Soviet times, Leikin's works were practically not reprinted. The cover is decorated in the Art Deco style and in itself is an unsurpassed example of modern bookbinding art. A beautifully designed edition will decorate any library, and will be a good gift for connoisseurs and connoisseurs of the book.
