Plutarch, the great ancient Greek writer, scientist and philosopher, collected and systematized the statements of outstanding personalities all his life. The result of this work were, in particular, collections of sayings of the Spartans, Spartan women, as well as kings and generals of antiquity. According to ancient tradition, these sayings are presented in the form of historical anecdotes, the main character of which reacts to a certain situation with an apt word, aphorism or instructive maxim. The attitude towards civic virtues and high morality makes these short stories a real textbook of life, relevant at all times and for all peoples without exception.
