"The Secret Adviser to the Leader" is a sensational book. This is a confession novel by a man who worked side by side with Joseph Stalin for many years, saw a lot, knew a lot and was silent for a long time. And finally, with the help of V. Ouspensky, he started talking about his boss, his entourage, and the country. He tells the story honestly, without embellishment, but also without denigration. The book contains a lot of interesting information of great cognitive value.

The novel is written in the form of memoirs by Nikolai Alekseevich Lukashov, a noble intellectual, a tsarist officer who happened to be on the side of the Reds during the Civil War and later became close to Stalin. For many years, the wise military staff officer Lukashov has become a loyal adviser to the head of state, endowed with the exclusive right to always express his own opinion to him without risking incurring his wrath. According to historian V. V. Sukhodeev, this character was created based on the biography of P. A. Ermolin, who became Stalin's adviser in 1940.
