The history of the Russian navy is the path of formation and Russian statehood. The Navy, created by Peter the Great more than three hundred years ago, has become an object of pride for all generations of Russians. The Russian navy means hard work and heroism for the glory of the Motherland, it is the combat power of our country, a guarantee of security and national interests, but above all it is strong-minded, indomitable and infinitely devoted to the Motherland people.
Russia is rightfully proud of its naval commanders: F. F. Ushakov, M. P. Lazarev, V. A. Kornilov, P. S. Nakhimov, S. O. Makarov and many others. More than 500 islands and bays outside our country are named after remarkable Russian pioneers: S. I. Dezhnev, V. I. Bering, A. I. Chirikov, D. Ya. and H. P. Laptev, F. P. Wrangel, O. Y. Schmidt, S. I. Chelyuskin.
The book reflects the main milestones of the glorious history of the Russian Empire's fleet: the most important combat operations are recreated and illustrated, the details of naval tactics and strategy are described in detail, the lessons of defeats are impartially analyzed, and the epochs of the great conquests of our state at sea are shown.
The text of the book was prepared by combat officers of the Naval Academy of the Nikolaev General Staff, richly illustrated with documentary material; the book contains maps and diagrams of the most important military operations of the Russian Empire at sea.
