The boundaries between them are sometimes very difficult to draw, since scientific research was often carried out by military balloonists on military balloons, and sports records were set during scientific flights by civilian and military aeronauts. The history of educational and scientific institutions and public organizations of Russian aeronautics is also described. Sports aeronautics was covered only until the 50s of the XX century.
