Sergey Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky is the discoverer of color photography in Russia, a research scientist, a student of Dmitry Mendeleev. His name was forgotten for almost a century, and only at the beginning of the XXI century, thanks to modern technologies, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with the collection of the master and the great inventor.
In the first decade of the 20th century, Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky conceived and carried out several large-scale photo expeditions to 11 regions of the Russian Empire, traveling in a specially equipped railway carriage provided to him by the Ministry of Railways. 1900 negatives have been preserved, and we can see the colored empire — Russia a century ago — people of different nationalities, cities and provinces, culture and nature, monasteries and temples, crafts and crafts, large-scale construction and agriculture, industry and minerals.
