Three great scientists of the XIX century had a decisive impact on the entire subsequent history of mankind. Darwin discovered the law of species change, Marx – surplus value, and Freud – the laws of the unconscious, thanks to which the famous school of psychoanalysis was born. Sigmund Freud's discovery of the deeply hidden causes and motives of social and sexual behavior in human consciousness, as well as many mental disorders, underlies most modern theories of personality.
In this collection we have included new translations of Freud's famous works on psychoanalysis, and "Self-Portrait" - a magnificent autobiographical essay, where the biography is woven into the history of the psychoanalytic movement.
