Amber icon "Peter and Fevronia"

The icon of Peter and Fevronia depicts a married couple, which is a rare case for the Orthodox Church. Their story is described in the Story of Peter and Fevronia from the XVI century. The story says that Peter was a Murom prince who married a simple girl Fevronia. With her love, she cured his body of terrible ulcers twice, which earned her the deepest devotion and love in return. The Murom boyars did not accept Fevronia, in response to which Peter renounced the throne, after which terrible misfortunes struck the city. The boyars had to ask Peter and Fevronia to return to rule, and only after that peace reigned on the Murom land for a long time.

Peter and Fevronia are an example of selfless loyalty. And their union is not carnal, but spiritual. Even after the death that overtook them on the same day, they miraculously ended up together in the same tomb. The icon of Peter and Fevronia is considered the best gift for newlyweds who dream of a long and happy life together. It strengthens marriage, instills wisdom in the hearts of spouses, and helps to build strong family relationships.
