Icon of the Mother of God on the Throne on natural mother-of-pearl in a gold frame

The icon of the Mother of God on the Throne symbolizes the ideal Church. The Mother of God sits majestically and calmly on the throne, holding the baby Jesus on her lap. Her posture demonstrates restraint, rigor and self-control. And the very presence on the Throne demonstrates royal greatness.

Church tradition interprets the image of the Mother of God as an earthly vessel created by the immeasurable wisdom of God. Inside this vessel, or house, Jesus Christ miraculously found his human incarnation. The Church highly honors God's plan and the purity, holiness, and unattainable greatness of the Mother of God. On the icon, she appears as the Queen of Heaven.

Christians especially venerate the Most Holy Theotokos. After all, it was through her that divine predestination took place, and the Savior descended into the world to cleanse the flesh from sin and give hope to mankind. In the design of the icon, light and golden tones are used, giving the image sublimity. It is customary to worship the image of the Mother of God with a baby on the Throne. The worshippers praise the Immaculate Virgin and her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. It is believed that the icon helps in strengthening faith and in healing from terrible diseases. Therefore, she is often asked to get rid of the disease.
