About this product
Art. : 389-42

The porcelain plate captures St. Petersburg in all its lyrical poignancy — refined, drowned in the reflections of the canals, with notes of urban melancholy and unchanging irony. In the foreground is the curved wrought—iron parapet of the embankment, topped with familiar feathered characters. In the center of this picturesque miniature is the legendary chizhik—pyzhik, the hero of ancient student folklore, as if he flew out of the past to appear before the modern inhabitants of the city.

According to legend, the students of the College of Law, located on Fontanka, sported such elegant green uniforms that they looked like bright birds. This is how this humorous image was born, which centuries later found material embodiment in the smallest St. Petersburg sculpture. In this story, chizhik decides to break his usual routine by flying from Fontanka to Moika Embankment, where he is greeted with surprise by other feathered townspeople.

Another colorful resident of the northern capital, the red—haired cat Vasily, lurked at the bend of the parapet. This slyly squinting observer seems to embody the very spirit of St. Petersburg: independent, restrained, but with a spark of curiosity. His attentive gaze, directed at the noisy company of birds, creates the feeling of a lively narrative, as if the scene on the plate is a moment from a book that you want to read on.

The background is the very soul of the city. Narrow embankments, an arched bridge, reflections in the water, and a sunset sky intertwined with watercolor strokes create an atmosphere of mystery reminiscent of Dostoevsky's novels and evening walks to the sound of footsteps on cobblestones. The gilded ornament on the edge of the plate adds a sense of grandeur, reminding of the historical splendor of St. Petersburg.

This item is more than decorative porcelain. This is an artistic sketch filled with a subtle play of meaning, history and character of the city, where humor coexists with philosophy, and everyone, even the smallest hero, has his own place in the legends. The plate is designed for those who know how to see meaning in details, and the reflection of epochs in things.
