The name “Kalenda" is aimed at the international market: in Latin, “calendae” is the first day of the month. This word passed into European languages, as well as, according to linguists, into Old Slavonic in the form of “Kolyada”, where it was most often used as a folk name for Christmas Eve. Thus, the title of the series incorporates images of the Christmas mood and the beginning of a new calendar period. Introducing wreaths of pine branches and ornamental plants with berries into the decor, the author refers not only to the Western European Christmas tradition, but also to the artistic heritage of the Imperial Porcelain Factory, inspired by the compositions of one of the leading porcelain painters of the XIX century, Fyodor Krasovsky.
