Cavalry guards are a privileged regiment of the Russian army, Guards heavy cavalry, personal bodyguards of monarchs. The regiment was completed before Paul I exclusively from representatives of noble Russian families, so to emphasize the aristocracy, the cuirassiers received bright headdresses. The history of the Cavalry Corps dates back to 1724, when, on the day of the coronation of Catherine I, Peter the Great for the first time formed the Cavalry Guard — the honorary guard of the Empress from 60 selected officers of the Guard. Following the example of Peter, the Cavalry was formed by all his successors with the exception of Peter III. The cap of the helmet is decorated with the figure of a double-headed eagle, and the facade is decorated with the star of the first Russian Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. The highest order, whose motto is "For faith and fidelity", was established by Peter I in 1699. By the way, the sketch itself, the charter and the status of the order were developed personally by the tsar. Inside the eight-pointed star there is a round medallion with a double-headed eagle. On the eagle's chest, a cross in the shape of the letter "X" is barely discernible, on which, according to legend, St. Andrew was crucified. Around the circle of the medallion there is a motto that celebrates the merits for which the award was given. The knights of the order, according to the Statute, must have a count's or princely title, the rank of senator, minister, ambassador, or general rank. At the same time, no more than 12 people of the "natural Russian cavaliers" could be knights of the order. The order complained only at the discretion of the Sovereign Emperor. The tradition of awarding the order was revived in 1998. The idea to make a cup in the form of a cuirassier helmet was not born by chance among Russian jewelers. The fact is that, according to legend, the ceremonial helmet, due to its stability, was used by the cavalry guards as a bro at officer banquets. The cup turned out to be so successful that it was performed and is still being performed by different masters: E.Collin (1899-1908), the Grachev Brothers (1903), N. Balmasov. One of the works is kept in the State Hermitage Museum.
