Many centuries ago, back in the days of the Ottoman Empire, it was customary to drink tea from armud. The pear-shaped shape of the cups made it possible to maintain the optimal temperature of the drink for a long time, it was neither hot nor cold. The small capacity of these glasses did not require much time to finish the tea, which did not lose its taste and was drunk freshly brewed. The empire collapsed, but the traditions were preserved. Each of the peoples of the Middle East believes that armudas appeared for the first time in their region, and then spread throughout the territory. In Russia, tea drinking with armudas is popular in the Caucasus.
