About this product
Steven Spielberg shot most of the film at the child's eye level, so, in his opinion, the connection between Elliot and the Alien looked even more convincing. Filming from such a point was supposed to have a psychological effect on the audience: children could identify themselves with the main characters, adults could see how threatening they sometimes look in the eyes of a child. But it turned out to be difficult for the child actors to look into the eyes of an Alien - they were so unnaturally far away from each other on the doll's face. In order for eye contact to succeed and look convincing, Drew Barrymore and Henry Thomas independently decided to look at the alien only in one eye.
